Adidas

  • Adidas is founded in 1948 by Adi Dassler after he and his brother Rudi Dassler split
  • Adi supplies his friend, Sepp Herberger who is the coach of the 1954 German World Cup team with his newly invented adjustible soccer boots and Germany wins the World Cup that is later called the Miracle of Bern
  • In 1956 Adi's son Horst is sent to the Melbourne Olympics to sell athletes Adidas spikes but instead had the idea of giving them out for free to gain publicity
  • In 1959 Horst Dassler was placed in charge of a separate plant in France set up by his parents
  • Adidas starts producing clothing and soccer balls in 1961
  • Kareem Abdul-Jabbar was the first basketball player contracted by Adidas and wore the Adidas Superstar that was launched in 1969
  • Muhammad Ali and Joe Frazier both wore special boxing shoes made by Adidas during the fight of the century in 1971
  • The "Trefoil Logo" was intoduced in 1972 by Adidas
  • Adi dies in 1978 and Käthe dies in 1984 leaving Horst Dassler to run the company
  • Horst Dassler dies at the age of 51 in 1986
  • Adidas' new logo is launched in 1996
  • Herbert Hainer is officially appointed as CEO of Addidas in 2001 and is current CEO today
